How to continue The Bible in a Year on the Vachanam app — right from the day you stopped. It is free, and there is nothing to sign up for.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.” — Psalm 119:105
Prefer to watch first? This two-minute video shows every step below:
1First, find your day number
On YouTube, look at the last Fr. Mike video you finished. Its title starts with a day number — for example “Day 45: Israel’s Rebellion.”
Write that number down. The app uses the very same day numbers, so if you finished Day 45 on YouTube, you will continue from Day 46 in the app. You only need this number once.
2Put Vachanam on your phone
Vachanam is a website that installs like an app — nothing to download from a store.
If your phone is an Android (Samsung, Redmi, etc.)
Open Chrome and type this in the address bar at the top: vachanam.pages.dev
Tap the three dots ⋮ in the top-right corner of Chrome.
In the menu, tap Add to Home screen (on some phones it says Install app), then confirm.
If your phone is an iPhone
Open Safari and type this in the address bar: vachanam.pages.dev
Tap the Share button — the little square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen.
Scroll down the menu and tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.
Now there is a new icon on your home screen called Vachanam. From today, always open the app from that icon — like WhatsApp or any other app.
3Make your profile
Open Vachanam from your home screen. A welcome page appears.
Type your name in the box.
Below your name, pick a face — tap any little picture you like (a dove, a candle, a crown…). It becomes your symbol.
Tap the gold button Begin ✦
Whenever you open the app later, it may greet you with a gold button like Take up the lamp, Mary ✦ (with your name). Just tap it — that is how you come in.
4Start the Bible in a Year plan
At the bottom of the screen there is a row of buttons. Tap Readings
Scroll down a little until you see the list of ready-made plans.
Find the one called ✝️ Bible in a Year (Catholic) — it mentions Fr. Mike Schmitz in its description.
Tap its gold button Start this plan and wait a moment while all 365 days are put on your shelf.
Be careful: there are two plans with similar names. You want the one with the cross ✝️ that says (Catholic). Only that one has Fr. Mike’s podcast inside it.
5Jump to your day (one time only)
The plan always begins at Day 1, so once — just this once — tell it where you really are:
The plan opens up and shows its days. (If it is closed, tap its title: ▸ 📚 Bible in a Year (Catholic))
Near the top you will see the words “Go to day” next to a small number box.
Tap the box, type your day number (for example 46), and tap Go
Your day’s page opens. Tap 📖 Read the whole list — the day opens like a little book. You are back where you left off!
You will never need to do this again. From now on, the app remembers your place by itself.
6Each day: listen, read, mark it done
Inside the day’s book:
Tap 🎧 Fr. Mike’s podcast — Day 46 at the bottom of the book. Fr. Mike starts speaking, just like on YouTube — the day’s exact episode plays right inside the app, and keeps playing even if the screen switches off.
If you like, read along — tap the left or right edge of the page to turn it, like a real book. Or simply listen.
When you are finished, go to the last page (the chapter buttons under the page jump you anywhere) and tap ✓ Mark the whole reading as read
Tap ✕ at the top to close the book — you land right back on your plans.
One thing to know: there is also a button that says ▶ Play all — that is a computer voice reading the text, not Fr. Mike. For Fr. Mike, always use the 🎧 headphones button.
7Tomorrow, and every day after
Open Vachanam from your home screen and tap the gold lamp button with your name.
Tap Readings at the bottom.
Tap the big gold button that shows the next day — for example 📖 Day 47 · Egypt and Exodus · 16 Feb
Listen, then mark it as read. That’s the whole routine — three taps a day.
Because you marked yesterday as read, that gold button automatically shows the next day. You never lose your place, even if you miss a few days.
Catching up: want to do two or three days in one sitting? Just mark a day as read, go back, and the gold button already shows the next one. Nothing is ever locked.
