This page is short because Vachanam collects almost nothing, and — with one optional exception, the Family & Friends group board described below — stores nothing about you anywhere but your own device.
Your verse lists, memorization progress, points, streaks, profiles, and settings are stored in your browser's local storage on your device. They are never sent to us. There are no accounts. If you export a backup, it is a file you hold; sharing a list shares Bible references only — never your progress, name, or anything personal. The one exception is the optional Family & Friends group board, described below — and it shares only what you can see on that board. Verse recordings you make in your own voice are stored in the browser’s database on the same device and are never uploaded; deleting a recording removes it from the device.
To show you Scripture, the app fetches Bible text from public providers — bible-api.com, bolls.life, ebible.org, and API.Bible for translations used by permission. The app's fonts load from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com) on first visit, after which they are cached for offline use. Pressing “Listen — narrated” in a Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Odia, Gujarati, Punjabi or Assamese book streams that chapter’s recording from Bridge Connectivity Solutions’ media server (vachan.sgp1.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com); nothing is stored, and nothing plays unless you press it. Like any web request, these necessarily reveal your device's IP address to that provider while fetching. Text is then cached on your device so reading and review work offline. If you send feedback, it is an ordinary email from your own mail app to vachanam.bible@gmail.com — we see exactly what you choose to send.
If you choose to create or join a group on the Progress tab, your profile's name, avatar, points, streak, verses-mastered count, and armor-crest badge are stored on our server so the people in your group can see them on the shared board — that is the entire list; your verses, notes, highlights, and reading history never leave your device. Groups are joinable only by their code and are never listed anywhere. The server also keeps the group's name (typed by whoever created it) and internal timestamps used only for automatic cleanup. To limit abuse, creating a group briefly stores a one-way hash derived from your IP address — never the address itself — which is deleted within an hour. Leaving a group deletes your row; deleting your profile deletes it too; the group's name remains while any member keeps the group alive; and a group nobody touches for over a year is deleted automatically. If you never use groups, nothing changes: no data leaves your device. If a member posts a list to the group, the list’s name and its verse references are stored with the group and shown to every member, credited to the poster; each member’s row then also carries how many of that list’s verses they have mastered. Nothing else about a saved copy is shared.
Vachanam is family-friendly by construction: unless a group is joined, no data leaves the device, and a child's use is as private as the device itself. Profiles are separated for tidiness, not identity — we cannot see them. A child's profile joins a group board only if someone with the device chooses it, shares only the board's five fields, and can leave at any time.
If this policy ever changes, the change will be described plainly on this page with a new date.
